Weston-super-Mare, UK — Churches across Weston-super-Mare are inviting the community to gather for a Vigil for Peace on Wednesday 18 March, 7:00–9:00pm, at Milton Baptist Church, Baytree Road, Weston-super-Mare.
The evening forms part of the international Week of Prayer for Peace (16–22 March 2026) organised by 24-7 Prayer, which is calling Christians around the world to pause, reflect, and pray in response to growing conflict and instability in many parts of the world.
The vigil is being hosted by Love Weston, a partnership of around 35 churches across Weston-super-Mare, who are coming together to create a peaceful space for prayer, reflection, and unity.
Organisers say the evening will be simple and contemplative, offering people an opportunity to step away from the pressures and anxieties of daily life and join with others in seeking peace for the world.
“We believe that prayer has the power to bring hope in troubled times,” Revd Craig Philbrick, President of Love Weston said. “At a moment when many people feel concerned about conflict and uncertainty around the globe, we want to open the doors of the church and invite anyone who wishes to come and pray for peace.”
During the two-hour vigil, there will be space for quiet reflection, worship, and guided prayer, allowing individuals and groups to pray in their own way while joining with others in a spirit of unity and compassion.
The gathering is open to people of all ages and backgrounds, whether they regularly attend church or simply wish to take a moment to reflect and pray for peace.
Across the world, thousands of churches and prayer communities are participating in the global initiative led by 24-7 Prayer, dedicating time during the week of 16–22 March to seek God’s peace and mercy for nations affected by war, division, and unrest.
Rev Dr Lou Luft, Pastor of Milton Baptist Church said, ‘We hope this vigil will also serve as a visible sign of unity among the town’s churches and a reminder that the community stands together in hope for a more peaceful world.’
