Until recently, Weston-super-Prayer held a bi-monthly Cafe Style Prayer and Praise evening at Emmanuel Church, Weston-super-Mare where up to 120 people from many different churches in the area meet to hear about local issues and real life stories that need our prayer.
Topics covered included: The NHS (our hospital, doctors etc); our MP, John Penrose; Avon & Somerset Police; Street Pastors; Education (76 schools); Avon Fire & Rescue Service; Poverty & Homelessness in our area; North Somerset Council; Human Trafficking; Weston’s Tourism economy; Royal Marines (40 Commando); Care & young Carers; Trade and Business; Farming and Agriculture; the RNLI; Weston Town Council; Youth & Unemployment in Weston; Chamber of Commerce and retail; Weston Hospicecare; Tropicana future; Christians in the Media; A Night Shelter for Weston.
The meetings started at 7.30pm with refreshments and typically, worship is led by musicians and singers from local churches before short presentations and talks are interspersed with times of informal prayer around the coffee tables.
There were many recollections of moving testimonies from service men, politicians and care workers as to why they need prayer and what we should pray for.
We continue to encourage prayer for the many issues that have been covered by these prayer gatherings through a Prayer Guide page on this website, briefings, handouts, emails and the use of social media.
The main focus of our meetings, which were at various venues during recent years, was the LOVE WESTON & AREA initiative. We will be aiming to encourage local folk to express prayer and care for their neighbourhoods around the town.
